The COVID crisis has caused a unique set of challenges for international and expat employees.
Separation from family offshore is tough and the social dislocation of WFH is amplified for newcomers who are still building Kiwi friendship networks.
To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, Mobile Relocation is working with employers to host Expat Panel discussions, about how to be resilient when you're far from home.
This gives your employees a chance to gain insights from people who, like them, came here as expats or migrants and have been caught up in the 18-month long pandemic, a situation no-one would have envisaged when making the decision to build a life in New Zealand.
Mobile Relocation has run programmes to mark MHAW for the past two years, and feedback from post-event surveys found that expats saw value for the following reasons:
+ having a safe space to discuss wellbeing concerns that were often different to those of their Kiwi colleagues
+ hearing the stories of other expats and realising they are not alone
+ feeling that their employer cared about them enough to organise an event specifically to meet their wellbeing needs as international staff
If your organisation employs significant numbers of expats or international staff, this is something you can do to support their wellbeing, and to demonstrate your understanding of the stress they are under.
