Sensory Modulation

My colleague and I are occupational therapists working at the Mason Clinic (Forensic Mental Health). Our activity/day will include sensory modulation stall/stations (including mindfulness-nature) in the OT room for MHAW. We will also have a variety of pamphlets and posters we ordered for MHAW available.

The reason we thought that sensory modulation would be perfect for MHAW is that when you are in nature, you use all your senses and you become aware of anything around you. When you are being aware of the life within you and around you, you are being mindful of this present moment, and it will always calm you down. You cannot do nature, you can just be there. Being is calming.

Outline of day:
• We will have fun and educational sensory activities for the day for the visitors (staff and clients).
• This will mostly be targeted at staff for their awareness but clients will be coming too.
• We will have specific time slots for the different units that want to come, the invitation will be extended via the OTs for each of the units so they can plan which clients can come over since they know their legal leave statuses and who needs some sensory modulation.
• We will also have pamphlets and some educational documentation on sensory modulation.
